Just call me demolition woman

Day 1 of demolition had arrived.  With permit in hand and dumpster delivered, there was no stopping us, or so we hoped!  On the way to the house, I told my dad "today will be the day that we figure out what amateurs we actually are."  And this statement definitely proved to be true as we forgot to bring a wheelbarrow and shovels.  Oh boy!  Lucky for us, our friend Richard had volunteered to help on this day and came more prepared with shovels we could borrow.

Quick shout out to Richard...I posted on Facebook that we were starting demo and hinting for any friends that wanted to knock down some walls to join us.  Immediately after this post, I got a message in my inbox from Richard simply saying "when and where."  Seriously, I have great friends in my life.  Thank you Richard for coming out on our inaugural day!

So now, with Richard's shovels in hand, we were really ready to start! My dad, Richard and I went at it!  Richard was a beast knocking down walls faster than I could have imagined.  By the end of the day, we had most of the front unit and some of the back unit's drywalls completely down.  I was impressed with our progress...and our mess!!!! Boy, did we make a mess!  We carried some big drywall pieces to the dumpster, but we decided to save the majority of the clean-up for the next day when we had some wheelbarrows to help with the loads.  :) Hey, we are learning!

Below are some pictures from day 1, but as I was uploading them, I realized its hard to tell where we are at and what progress we were making without seeing the house in person.  To help, I thought I would share this existing floor plan so as I describe the photos, you have some sort of idea where we are at.

It was a fun and rewarding demolition day.  I mean, let's be honest, its fun to knock stuff down!  And it felt good to see so much progress and change happen in just one day!

And yes, Joe Elliott, I am a demolition woman and you can be my man (well, not really, you are too old for me, but I love your music!)
